VIDEO RECITATION: You were beautiful

Ignorance.

Innocence.

Two very alike words which can impersonate each other.

She was ignorant. She was innocent.

He didn't know. He wasn't guilty.

You were beautiful. You were ignorant.

You were innocent before we met.

This piece was crafted while musing over ignorance and innocence.

'You were beautiful' became the title because innocence is so pretty to the guilty, which is why they seek to corrupt it.

Guilt corrupts innocence. Innocence attracts guilt.

Must you be innocent to feel guilt?

Must you be guilty to love innocence?

Isn't it all terribly romantic?

What would you do?

What would you promise?

This piece is but a few answers of an endless reply.

I hope you all enjoy~

VIDEO RECITATION: Trapped in Remembrance

Hanging on to things long past can be a heartache and a hazard.

When you lose something you can't help but hold on to even after it's long gone, you stop living and begin existing.

Existing for the sake of longing. Longing for the sake of remembering.

Hurting for the sake of feeling something, anything like what that important piece brought into your life.

We never want to let go.

We get trapped in a cycle of what if and why.

Our dreams become a cage, our thoughts become shackles, our eyes go bad for the face of reality.

This piece was crafted to embody what it means to remember when you can't forget.

What it means to hold on when you've had to, but can't let go.

Hopefully I've done the concept justice.

Sometimes, words can only be a shallow reflection of all we humans are capable of feeling inside.

VIDEO RECITATION: Patchwork Prince

Okay, so you know how we've all been conditioned to fall in love with idols and fabricated images of perfection, being as imperfect and flawed as we each are, often desiring and looking for more than human attributes in our companions?

Working on the premise of creating the perfect man of your dreams to measure others by, and constantly be disappointed on this basis, 'Patchwork Prince' became the iconic theme.

This was an attempt to document the way we pick and choose which pieces we want to keep of the ones we profess to love, making our own fairytale princes out of the concepts we've learned to find attractive.

In this way, we often wind up being diverted by ghosts on the path to true love and happiness.

I think we're all guilty of this particular brand of imagination.

Personally, I've always been the type to dream up a fantasy and enjoy chasing it around in my head.

It's not a crime, but it does make reality a bit harder to stomach.

I think love tends to begin as 75% of our imagination running wild, and 25% of affection for a person in truth rather than our idea of them.

This is probably the reason so many people have short relationships which may not even last a week, much less a season.

We're all falling in love with our ideals, rather than with each other.

*sighs*

It's a bit depressing at the root, but at the very least it's good to have a mental escape when you need one.

Thus, I give you 'Patchwork Prince'.

The unlimited edition of a conceptualized heartthrob. ^-^

VIDEO RECITATION: All for the Smile

How do you describe what happens in that perfect moment which makes all the pain building up to it worth while?

How do you outline all of the transitioning emotions you feel in a series of split seconds?

Assuming these questions make a lick of sense, I was moseying along these lines when this piece was developed.

I wanted to paint a picture of the movie-screen climax we all love to wait for and envy.

You know, when the realizations come into play and it's all fireworks and chills and romantic theme music.

Call this a trip through sapville, but I think it came out pretty well on the whole.

I would love to hear whether or not I've made it to the box office already.

Any and all comments and criticisms will be much appreciated. ^-^

VIDEO RECITATION: Insatiable

Okay, here we go again. ^-^

This particular piece speaks for itself. It's more of a mood setter than anything else.

I was exploring the more sensual side of words when I wrote this.

It was all about the imagery, rhythm, and flow.

I wonder how well I've gotten the point across here. Feel free to give me your opinions on it.

Any and all comments and criticism are much appreciated.

VIDEO RECITATION: Futile Devotion

Attention!

This goes out to the third-wheels, good-friends, call-me-when-you-need-me-then-throw-me-in-the-closet, puzzle-piece-put-me-together-again, notice-me-before-I-disappear-already...hearts out there.

**We are NOT all tissues to be used and discarded.**

If you don't notice who's standing behind you, you'll soon have nobody left to catch you when you're falling apart.

Since when did we become the invisible crutches?

Is it really worth hanging on so long and not being appreciated?

No.

Yes.

Maybe.

Sometimes...it depends?

Is there a right answer?

You tell me.

VIDEO RECITATION: The Hunt

Here we go again, folks.

I hope you all like this piece.

I suppose you could say this was me trying a bit of storytelling in a way. I wanted to bring a stalker to life with all the suspense and chills added into the mix.

Call this an experiment in style.

Have I succeeded?

Feel free to tell me what you think. All commentary and criticism is much appreciated.

VIDEO RECITATION: Remember What Is

I know it's been a minute, but we're finally live again, this time, hopefully better than ever. ^-^

This piece right here was originally written for a Black History program at my high school (which, btw, I'll be graduating from before the end of this month). *insert applause*

Ahem...I wrote it a while back, and I recited it at the assembly.

I actually think it might've been the first work I constructed with a specific purpose in mind the whole time.

While writing this, I looked at it not only from a historically black perspective, but from the perspective of being a member of humanity as a whole with how far we've come and how far we've yet to go.

It seems with every new generation of innovation, the past is becoming more and more obsolete in the minds of the youth of today.

I figured in a month supposedly dedicated to history, my own especially, I should write a piece about remembering where we've come from.

For as they say, if you don't remember the past, you'll be doomed to repeat it sooner or later.

Life has a funny way of teaching us our lessons repetitiously until we've gotten the point.

But I digress....

Anyhow, I hope you all enjoy this.
